A little to the north of Bonita Springs is the unincorporated area of Estero.  Hertz announced in May 2013 that it will be moving its corporate headquarters to Estero, and as a result, the area is poised for significant growth.  Estero enjoys the advantage of being close to both Naples (to the south) and Fort Myers (to the north), so it enjoys advantages and amenities of two cities without the busyness of city living.

Public Schools in Estero are administrated by the Lee County School District:

The two private schools that serve the community are Canterbury School and Royal Palm Academy.

News and Weather

Estero doesn’t yet have its own in-town news source.  Local events are covered by Naples Daily News.  Weather can be found here.

Lee Memorial Healthcare System, along with NCH and Physicians Regional, are the major healthcare systems of the area.  Estero is close to Fort Myers, meaning that it’s within easy access of the healthcare amenities of a fair-sized city.

Like Bonita, Estero’s parks are also administrated by Lee Country Parks and Recreation.  Estero is close to the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, a 13,000 acre preserve and home to the largest stand of old growth bald cypress in America.

Coconut Point is an outdoor mall complex in Estero, and a great place for meeting friends, eating out, people-watching, or shopping.  The same can be said for the slightly farther-flung Gulf Coast Town Center and Miromar Outlets.

If you’re thinking about expanding your academic horizons, Estero is also close to Florida Gulf Coast University.

The Germain Arena, home of the Florida Everblades (ice hockey), is nearby, and has an ongoing schedule of concerts, sporting events, and shows.
